The documented history of Kantara coincides with that of Hilarion and Buffavento castles. Kantara is situated on an altitude of 550-600 m (1,800-1,970 ft) above sea level. It is the lowest of the three castles and it is constructed all the way round the last formidable crest of the mountain range.
