Zallinger Chapel, Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm), South Tyrol, Italy

Zallinger Alm is located at an elevation of over 2,000 metres, at the foot of Sasso Piatto (Plattkofel) Mountain. In 1854, Karl von Zallinger from Bolzano (Bozen) bought the Alm pastureland from the owners of Decker Farm in Tesimo (Tisens). In 1857, von Zallinger had a small chapel of limestone blocks erected in honour of the Virgin Mary. In the summer of 1858, when it was inaugurated, it was the first chapel on the Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm) Alpine meadow. The chapel was restored several times, over the course of the years: for the first time for its 100th anniversary in 1958, again in 1993, and once again in 2007.
