Abbey of Monte Maria (Marienberg), Burgusio (Burgeis), South Tyrol, Italy

Monte Maria (Marienberg) Abbey is a Benedictine abbey in Mals, Vinschgau in South Tyrol. The abbey, which was founded in 1149, is located at an elevation of 1,340 m and is thus Europe’s highest-situated Benedictine abbey. Nobles of the House of Tarasp founded the abbey. Monks of the Benedictine order have inhabited the abbey for more than 800 years.
