Hotzenwaldhaus - a house from Hotzenwald (elevation 920m) which was built in 1756. The earlier Hotzenwald people protected themselves from the harsh climate of the area by providing their houses with roofs which pitch right down, almost to the ground, and with an insulating corridor (the Schild) which runs around the house between the outer wall and the living area. A significant proportion of the smallholderĀ“s income was earned with weaving. The name "Hotze" comes from the narrow-pleated, black breeches which were traditionally worn by the men of this area in the 19th century.
