The mighty Schwanzhammer (tail hammer) in the forge came to the museum from Ottenhöfen, where the forge had stood until 1938.It was driven by water power. The heavy hammer was lifted via a waterwheel, shaft and cogwheel, then to fall onto the steel anvil upon which the hot iron was roughly forged. The finer, final work was completed on the free-standing anvil.
