The construction of the Tevis Estate on one thousand feet of coastal frontage in 1902 set a tone of magnificent elegance that has only in the last two decades returned to historic Ocean View Avenue. Two of three original support buildings, or 'carriage houses', of the sprawling oceanside estate remained. At one time they were early homes to cannery owners Ben Senderman (Carmel Canning Co.) and Knute Hovden (Hovden Food Products Corporation).
