Female Cones of Welwitschia Mirabilis, Welwitschia Plain, Namibia

The species is dioecious, with separate male and female plants. Fertilization is carried out by insects including flies and true bugs. Infrequently, wasps and bees also play a role as pollinators of Welwitschia.
