Cape Town Hebrew Congregation

The Cape Town Hebrew Congregation, also called The Gardens Shul, is located in the Cape Town Botanical Gardens, in the Gardens neighborhood of Cape Town. The Cape Town Hebrew Congregation was founded in 1841 making it the oldest Congregation in South Africa and one of the oldest in the Southern hemisphere. It is regarded as the Mother Synagogue of South Africa and is a center for community events and celebrations. It possesses two notable historic structures, the 1863 synagogue and the 1905 synagogue. The original 1849 building is no longer extant.
