Stabiae - Villa Arianna and Villa San Marco

Stabiae was an ancient Roman town approximately 4.5km southwest of Pompeii. It was positioned on a 50m high headland overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Being only 16km from Mount Vesuvius, this seaside resort was largely destroyed by 2m of tephra ash in 79AD

Pompeii - The Roman Time Capsule

Pompeii was a Roman town which was destroyed and completely buried during a long catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius spanning two days in the year AD 79. The eruption buried Pompeii under 4-6m of ash and pumice, and it was lost for nearly 1700 years.

Greek Temples of Paestum, Campania (Italy)

Paestum, a Graeco-Roman city in Campania (Italy), was founded around the end of the 7th century BC by colonists from the Greek city of Sybaris, and was known as Poseidonia. The 3 Doric temples of Paestum are the best preserved Greek temples in the world.

Sperlonga - Villa of Tiberius

Sperlonga, a coastal town in the province of Latina in Italy, was an ancient Roman resort: Emperor Tiberius built here a famous villa, including one of the grottoes (Latin: speluncae) which gave the name to the town.

Baia is a town in Campania region, Italy. Now largely under the sea, ancient Baia was once the most opulent and fashionable resort area of the Roman Empire, the place where Sulla, Pompey, Cicero, Julius Caesar, Tiberius, and Nero built their holiday villas.

Tivoli - Villa Adriana (Hadrian's Villa)

Hadrian's Villa is a large complex at Tivoli, Italy. It was constructed (117 AD) as a retreat from Rome for Roman Emperor Hadrian. He disliked the palace on the Palatine Hill in Rome, during the later years he actually governed the empire from the villa.

Jordan - Petra revisited

A visit to Petra, a unique 2000 year old city in South Jordan, carved entirely into the rose-red cliffs by the Nabataeans. In 1985 Petra was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In 2007 Petra was selected as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Bucovina is a region in the northern part of Romania. The painted monasteries were built during the 15th-16th centuries (in the days of Stephen the Great and his son Petru Rares). The monasteries were designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993.
