Panoramic View of Rodern, Alsace, France

Known as the Cradle of Pinot Noir, Rodern is a charming wine-producing village, dominating the Plain of Alsace, situated just off the Wine Route. The lower part of the land around Rodern is covered with vines, the upper part with forest. Erected between the 16th and 18th centuries, the houses of wine growers are arranged densely around the village's core. The most modest of these consist of a single building with a cellar on the main floor of masonry and a timberframe upper floor for the living areas. Inhabitants who were better off, built houses entirely of stone with additional outbuildings.
