Love of Polyphemus and Galatea in House of Colored Capitals, Pompeii

In the traditional mythological scenes of love of Polyphemus for the beautiful Nereid Galatea is frustrated as she is borne off by dolphins far out to sea. This version is much kinder on the Cyclops than that of Theocites. The Nereid is seen yielding languorously to his embrace, while around him are the attributes of the ram, the syrinx and the shepherd's knotty staff.
Now it is in the Naples National Archaeological Museum
